China’s Intervention at Ministerial Session on Agriculture at MC14

28 March 2026

From China’s perspective, the stalemate in the agricultural negotiations can be attributed to three main factors.

First, the legitimate concerns of developing members remain unaddressed. Second, the “rule deficit” remains prominent. Third, the negotiations have yet to effectively respond to the call of the times.

China would like to propose the following approaches to help  break the impasse in the agricultural negotiations.

First, reaffirm the objective of agricultural negotiations.Second, advance the negotiations in a pragmatic and constructive spirit. Third, enhance experience sharing and evidence based analysis to explore new ideas to help bridge differences and build consensus. China supports the Chairs text which has received general support from members as the outcome on agriculture for MC14. The outcome is indispensable for a successful MC14 and will provide guidance and momentum on revitalizing the negotiations beyond MC14.

China remains committed to engaging with all members to advance the agricultural negotiations, with the aim of promoting global agricultural development and enhancing global food security.
