China’s Interventions at the WTO Reform Transparency Plenary Session at MC14

27 March 2026

China would like to thank the Minister Facilitators for their efforts to summarize the breakout group discussions. China supports MC14 to adopt a Ministerial Statement and a workplan on WTO reform, as set out in the draft proposed by the reform facilitator Ambassador Olberg, with concrete starting points, timelines and organizational structures.

This draft is the result of 9 months constructive consultations by members in Geneva, striking a delicate balance between different ambitions with respect to level of granularity, without prejuding outcomes and with flexibility.

We all want a reformed WTO better responding to the needs of members. More importantly, actions speak louder than words. In the interest of supporting the multilateral trading system, it is important to take action first at MC14 to adopt a workplan and engage in serious discussions Post MC14.
