Agenda Item: Protocol Amending the Marrakesh Agreement Establishing the World Trade Organization  – Agreement on Fisheries Subsidies – Entry into Force

Thank you, Chair. This is an exciting moment. We want to thank DG, for your personal tremendous efforts.

Today marks a historic milestone for WTO and for global governance.

With this Agreement coming into force, it demonstrates that persistence can smooth even the roughest waters. It is a testimony that WTO should and can be a part of solution to the global challenges, and WTO should and can address current and emerging issues. Multilateral issues can only be addressed through multilateral cooperation.

Today’s success will bring determination and confidence to members who value and support WTO to continue their efforts. And we believe that every effort will be rewarded.
