The fourth Informal Dialogue on Plastics Pollution and Environmentally Sustainable Plastics Trade in 2022 was held on 7 December 2022. Chaired by Ecuadorian Ambassador H.E. Jose Valencia, the meeting was attended by about 120 delegates from WTO members, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and academia. During his opening remarks, Ambassador LI Chenggang commended WTO members and stakeholders for their active participation in the dialogue in 2022. He encouraged IDP cosponsors to continue to strengthen communication and cooperation with relevant international processes, to start specific topic discussions when time is mature and to further engage with the LDCs, SIDS and other developing members. WTO should play its unique role in the international process.
The facilitators of the three IDP work streams introduced the discussion in 2022 respectively. More than 20 WTO members and representatives of relative international organizations affirmed the considerable progress made by IDP in 2022, and put forward opinions and suggestions on the work for next year.
