On 13 June 2022, the IDP initiative held MC12 press briefing at the WTO to issue the Ministerial Coordinator Statement, with a view to introducing the implementation of the Ministerial Statement on Plastic Pollution and Environmentally Sustainable Plastics Trade since its releasing at the end of 2021 and clarifying the way forward for the initiative. Diversified international media attended and interacted with the speakers. In his remarks, Ambassador LI Chenggang introduced China's measures and achievements on plastic pollution control, affirming the progress of IDP since the issuance of the Ministerial Statement. He commended WTO members and stakeholders for their active participation in the dialogue and proposed that IDP should stay committed to development as a priority and a people-centered approach, benefiting for all, ensuring harmony between human-being and nature, and continuing to be innovation-driven and result-oriented. He also proposed that IDP strive to play a unique role in the international joint efforts to deal with plastic pollution. WTO Deputy Director-General ZHANG Xiangchen, as well as Ecuadorian Vice Minister and Australian Ambassador as co-coordinators of IDP affirmed the progress made by IDP and shared their views on the next step.
