Ambassador LI Chenggang Briefs Journalists from African Countries

On 2nd December 2022, Ambassador LI Chenggang attended a briefing organized by the WTO Secretariat for the journalists from 10 African countries including Benin, Cameroon, Egypt, Tunisia and Rwanda. In his opening remarks, Ambassador LI pointed out it is the “MC12 Spirit” that empowered members to achieve the MC12 landmark victory. Such spirit has two major ingredients that are Faith and Cooperation. As a staunch supporter for the WTO-centered and rule based multilateral trading system, China’s contribution to the success of MC12 was significant and indispensable. Preserving the multilateral trading system and revitalizing WTO call for true multilateralism with concrete actions. In the meantime, China attaches great importance to cooperation with developing country members under the framework of WTO, and will continue to promote the economic and trade cooperation with the African countries through both bilateral channel and multilateral platform. Ambassador LI also introduced the new opportunities for the world created by China’s new journey initiated by the 20th National Congress of the Communist Party of China.

The journalists spoke highly of China's contribution to the success of MC12 and China’s support for development of the African countries. They further discussed with Ambassador LI on issues such as advancing Sino-African economic and trade relations, and aligning China’s “Belt and Road Initiative” with African Continental Free Trade Agreement, etc.
