Informal Dialogue on Plastics Pollution and Environmentally Sustainable Plastics Trade (IDP) holds its first regular meeting in 2022

The first Informal dialogue on Plastics Pollution and Environmentally Sustainable Plastics Trade in 2022 was held on 30 March 2022. Chaired by Ecuadorian Ambassador Jose Valencia, the meeting was attended by more than 130 delegates from WTO members, international organizations, non-governmental organizations and academia.

During his opening remarks, Ambassador Li Chenggang highlighted the progress made by the international communities in tackling plastic pollution since the last informal dialogue, affirmed the work carried out by IDP during the same period, and called for active participation of more members to work together to translate the consensus reached in the Ministerial Statement into more specific elements and proposals.

The representatives of UNEP, UNCTAD and TESS shared their respective work and made comments on the next step of IDP.The European Union and the Philippines introduced their experiences and practices in dealing with plastic pollution, while many other WTO members made observations and expressed their interest in advancing IDP in the WTO.
