Ambassador Li Chenggang attended the press
conference for Lao PDR’s participation in the Information Technology Agreement
(ITA) and ITA Expansion on 2 December, 2021, and congratulated on Lao
PDR’s joining the two Agreements as the first least developed member.
Ambassador Li pointed out that reductions and elimination
of duties on ICT products will help Lao PDR better integrate into global and
regional value chains in the digital era, enhance economic efficiency and
productivity, accelerate economic recovery from the pandemic and create better
environment for foreign investment. He encouraged more least
developed members to join the ITA and ITA II.
Ambassador Latsamy Keomany of the Lao PDR
thanked Ambassador Li for attending this press conference and the great support
given by China to make Lao PDR’s ITA membership possible. He said that Lao PDR
would make the utmost effort to fully and effectively implement all commitments
to these agreements and invited all WTO members to invest in the ICT sector in
Lao PDR.
